Snips, Snips Everywhere

Writer: Joslyn CarneyJoslyn Carney

I bet some of you are wondering why the paper strips are in our work drawers. In our montessori classroom, we call them snips. The children collect a bowl and a pair of scissors. They go to a work space and spend time cutting the strips into smaller pieces. Sometimes this is the end of the work and the child pours the snips into a container or a plastic bag to take home. Other times, the children will take the snips and glue them to a piece of paper. For some of my older children, we invite them to put the pieces of paper into groups of 5 or 10. Two children this year then decided to write numbers on the pieces of paper (after the collage was dry). Happy snipping!
